December 2nd, Outside, The Fox and the Hounds

Today we did the fox and the hounds outside with Mr. Davids' class. The game is essentially tag, with everyone split into groups of two, and two groups would each take a whistle and be the "fox", hiding from the other groups, the "hounds". Each fox group have to blow on the whistle as loud as they can every minute, and when they are caught, the group that catches them become the new fox, and have 2 minutes to get away.

My group was one of the foxes twice. The first time we got the whistle, we tried to go into the woods, but all of us stepped into a stream while running from another group. I tried to swing over the stream by grabing onto a thick branch that was sticking up from the ground, but the branch snapped, and I ended up stepping into the stream with my right shoe.

November 4th, Fitness Test - Interim Report

These are the results of my fitness test, which is also the test for my interim report:

    Beep test: 11.0
    Jump: 50cm
    Push-ups (without stopping): 23
    Body Bridge: 90s
    T-test: 11.14s
    Balancing Board: 12 touches
    Sit-and-reach: level 5

Over all, I think my fitness level is not as good as it had been last school year. Compare to the first test at the beginning of this semester, my test results have improved a little, with the exception of the beep test, which was 12.0. My poorer results may have partly been because of our band practices taking up the P.E classes; I need to exercise more on my spare time in order to improve my body's fitness level.

My goal in this school year is to more actively participate in sports and do more exercises like jogging or weightroom workouts. I hope I can get to a beep test score of 13.5 or 14 by the end of the year, and be able to do at least 40 push-ups without stopping. Wish me luck!

September 29th, In Pain...

After Friday's fitness, today my abs are hurting like crazy...... I can't even stand straight without feeling like my abs are getting ripped in half. I really have to work on my core muscles more.

September 25th, Ultimate/Football

Today we tried to self-organize an ultimate game on the upper field, and it was a good learning experience for me as we tried to organize everyone so we can have a good game.

There were 17 people in our group of ultimate game, so we decided to divide into 4 groups. To save time, we picked four captains and quickly selected our group members. Making the teams this way saves some time, but like Mr. Neufeld pointed out, it may make the people left out at the end feel bad. I believe we can try another way to make the teams next time.

When we were trying to decide how to run the games, we ran into a lot of confusion because almost everyone had an opinion on how to set up the game. We agreed that there will be two games going on separate fields at the same time, but everyone wanted to have the rules and size of the fields their own way. In the end, I got everyone's attention, made my suggestions, and asked if anyone has any objections. Getting everyone's attention and having only one person really helped to quickly organize the game, and now I know how best to efficiently organize a game next time.

As we played the game, we made changes to the rules, making a larger field and requiring the Frisbee to be passed past the end zone to score a point. By changing the rules to improve the game and counting in everyone, we all had a really fun time.

September 20th, Pond Run

Today we went for the pond run in fitness, and did the one minute interval running, in which we run for a whole minute as hard as we can, then taking a minute break by walking.

The most important part of the workout was the last 15 seconds or so in the one minute of running, because after going at full speed for about 45 seconds, depending on each person's level of fitness, the human body starts shutting down, and it's pushing at this point that will improve the body and challenge it's limits.

I found this to be very true, because in every one minute interval when I ran to the 40 seconds mark, my legs starts giving out and it became much harder to keep running. I'm very proud that I kept trying to push myself, and ran the whole minute for every interval.

September 16th, Dodgeball

Today in dodgeball, I helped to make everyone else have fun by holding back on how hard I threw the ball at other people when I'm up close, so no one will get hurt from the game.
